Seating furniture is fixture used for the basic purpose of seating; it can come in the form of a single office chair specifically designed for one person or a living room couch that can be used by three to five persons at a time. Seating furniture is a must-have addition for any space; living and working areas are never complete without them.

There are different types of seating furniture used in different locations in the house or in the office. A basic chair can either be used in an office or home environment; it is made up of basic seating furniture components such as a back rest and a raised seat supported by four legs. Depending on their ergonomic or aesthetic design, chairs can turn into classic elegant furniture or contemporary additions to a space. There are different kinds of seating chairs for different functions - dining room chairs, bedroom chairs, office chairs, computer chairs, and even arm chairs for schools and institutions.

A seating couch, on the other hand, is another type of seating furniture usually used in living rooms, lounges, and even in big offices. A couch is a cushioned seating typically designed for comfort, but many of these chairs also serve as decor, especially when designer-made. There are also different kinds of couches from "love seats" to living room couches to sofas and convertible couches. Benches and stools are modified forms of a basic chair. A bench consists of a long piece of slab that forms the seat, raised by legs on each side and the absence of any arm or back rest, just like a stool.

Different materials can be used to make any type of seating furniture, from wood to plastic and metal, as well as other contemporary materials. Finishings and seat coverings can be made out of velvet materials, leather, and even weaved materials, among others.

A seating furniture may come with an accessory or two, such as a foot rest or an ottoman, as well as a chair cover, some chair pads, chair glides, wheels, and mats. All these accessories are used either for the protection of the seating furniture, for more mobility, or just plain aesthetics.
